Walk Details
Starting from the trailhead on Pohlners Road, we will reach a track junction after 100 metres and take the track to the right, then steadily climb up to the top of the ridgeline, with the track having a large number of rocky steps to negotiate.
After 1.7km, we will link up with the Grampians Peaks Trail and continue to walk along the ridge across a vast rocky area with excellent views of the surrounding countryside.
A kilometre further along the GPT, Mount of Olives will come into view to the left and we will leave the track and head towards it through the bushland. The off-track section is around 300 to 500 metres in length depending on where we leave the track and how much zig-zagging we need to do to avoid any prickly sections of scrub.
At the top of the ridgeline below the Mount of Olives peak, there is an open area with great views to the south and west. The final climb up to the summit is a short but steep scramble over open rocky ground. Lunch will be at the summit with a wonderful all-round view of the northern Grampians peaks and surrounding farmland.
We will then return through the bushland to the GPT and retrace our steps back downhill to the starting point on Pohlners Road. After the walk we will stop at Dadswells Bridge General Store for an ice cream / coffee on the way back to Stawell and Ararat.
