SUMMARY:Mount of Olives
DESCRIPTION:If you would like to join us\, please notify Brett on 0438 852773 or bretta5@bigpond.com by 8pm on Thursday 22nd May to register your interest and to receive departure times and locations or further information. \nWalk Details \nStarting from the trailhead on Pohlners Road\, we will reach a track junction after 100 metres and take the track to the right\, then steadily climb up to the top of the ridgeline\, with the track having a large number of rocky steps to negotiate. \nAfter 1.7km\, we will link up with the Grampians Peaks Trail and continue to walk along the ridge across a vast rocky area with excellent views of the surrounding countryside. \nA kilometre further along the GPT\, Mount of Olives will come into view to the left and we will leave the track and head towards it through the bushland. The off-track section is around 300 to 500 metres in length depending on where we leave the track and how much zig-zagging we need to do to avoid any prickly sections of scrub. \nAt the top of the ridgeline below the Mount of Olives peak\, there is an open area with great views to the south and west. The final climb up to the summit is a short but steep scramble over open rocky ground. Lunch will be at the summit with a wonderful all-round view of the northern Grampians peaks and surrounding farmland. \nWe will then return through the bushland to the GPT and retrace our steps back downhill to the starting point on Pohlners Road. After the walk we will stop at Dadswells Bridge General Store for an ice cream / coffee on the way back to Stawell and Ararat. \nGrade: Medium (with a 600m to 1km section of off-track walking)\nDistance: 7km\nElevation: 220 metres\nDuration: approx. 3 walking hours\, plus breaks \nRequirements: Long pants or gaiters (for off-track section)\, sturdy boots\, backpack\, lunch\, water\, first aid kit\, hat\, sunscreen\, raincoat (if wet weather is forecast)\, walking poles (if desired)

SUMMARY:Come & Try Bushwalking Day
DESCRIPTION:WALK NAME:  Beehive and Gar Falls \nWALK SUMMARY:  This is a great walk in the Northern section of the Grampians NP with a focus on waterfalls\, but there is forest\, heathland\, huge and spectacular cliffs\, and expansive views. \nDATE and TIME:   \n13 Sep 2025        Start time will be advised on registration. \nWALK DESCRIPTION: The walk initially follows Dead Bullock Creek (no surprises where that name came from!) where there is a series of beautiful waterfalls\, the Gar Falls\, culminating in the highest of the falls where we will have a short break before ascending the first of a series of short climbs.  As we climb\, we leave the forest and the enter heathlands where views across to the Mt Difficult Range and the country to the north open up. \nAt the Beehive Falls Track junction 3.2km from our starting point\, we leave the GPT and walk along a large rock shelf\, head north east along the base of an impressive textured cliff face. The relatively easy walking comes to an end as we descend the escarpment beside Beehive Falls very steeply. Take care. After admiring the falls\, we cross over the footbridge and follow the track for the easy walk to the Beehive Falls carpark. \nDISTANCE:  \n7 km One Way with car shuffle at end. Walking time 4 hours \nAWT GRADE: 3 (Easy/Medium).  The walk is fully on track but for some sections it is quite exposed to both sun and adverse weather. There is some scrambling over rocks\, and the section near Beehive Falls is steep – care is required if wet. \nTOTAL ASCENT: \n300m \nWHO IS THIS WALK FOR? \nThis walk will suit able-bodied walkers\, but we will walk at a relaxed pace. We will be experiencing this wonderful area in spring that allows all walkers to enjoy\, taking photos\, looking at the many flowers and bird watching. \nWHAT TO BRING:\nEssential: \n\nEmergency contact form with medical info\n1.5L water\nBackpack\nlunch\nRain jacket\nHiking shoes/boots\nPersonal first aid kit (your health is your responsibility)\nSun hat/sunscreen\n\n  \n REGISTRATION for this WALK:  phone walk leader Julie Andrew 0407561135 before 5pm Thurs 11 September. \nCOST: \n$5 contribution if car pooling. \nMEETING POINT: Stawell SES Hall where we can carpool. \nClick here for the Walk Report
